This fearless urban fox stunned residents after climbing to the top of a 12ft high TREE in broad daylight to scope out their gardens for food.
Shocked Ken Thompson, 71, said the brazen beast was ”the size of a wolf” and sat perched on conifer trees in his back garden in full view of dozens of houses.
He reached for his camera when son Simon, 39, spotted the giant fox and was able to capture these remarkable pictures before the animal disappeared half an hour later.
Ken, a retired production engineer, said his housing estate in St Albans, Herts., is plagued by foxes playing in gardens, scavenging for food and watching passing cars.
His wife Dorothy, 74, is now too terrified to leave the back doors open fearful the giant fox may enter her home.
Mr Thompson said: ”My son was sat on the sofa looking into the back garden and he went ballistic. He got up and said there was a giant fox sitting on my conifers.
”He was there for a considerable amount of time and eventually he put his head down through the tree and wriggled down like a snake.
”He was huge. About the size of a wolf or an Alsatian. He must have been looking for food and could see all the gardens around him.
”This is a high density area of housing and a large population around here but there are also a lot of foxes.
”They used to rip open the bin bags before we got wheely bins. I’ve seen a scrawny fox very early in the morning sitting by the side of the road just looking at passing cars.
”There were two fox cubs playing in a neighbour’s garden the other day.
”But this fox in the tree was huge. I’m sure there’s a fox den around here somewhere. They are becoming very domesticated and not bothered by people at all.
”My wife Dorothy is terrified and hasn’t opened the French doors since. This fox was very big and she is worried it might get inside the house.”
Just last week photos revealed an urban fox sneaking into a bedroom in broad daylight in Ruislip, Middlesex.
The case echoes that of nine-month-old twins Lola and Isabella Koupparis who were mauled by a fox as they slept at their home in East London on June 5.
The attack left them with bite marks over their faces and arms.
I have worked for a wildlife rescue for many years and dealt with foxes of all ages and sizes, never have I seen one as big as a wolf or German Shepherd. It might have looked that big to the untrained eye but I can assure you it was not.
If it had been no way would it have been able to climb up and lay along a hedge without falling through, even the ascent of the hedge would have been impossible due the weight of the animal. Foxes are smaller and lighter making it easier to do this.

All jumping on to the bandwagon now aren't they? *rolls eyes*

Hmm, funny how his wife was terrified – in another newspaper article he said if he was lucky he might get to see it again! I am getting so fed up of tabloids and rags victimising foxes. NEVER have dog attacks been dragged out like this before.

Cows may come, and cows may go, but it seems the bull will be around for ever.

Typical fox – 8-17lb, very larg fox – 30lb
German Shepherd – 50-90lb
Somehow I think somebody is exxagerating for effect.

This is interesting. I also work at a wildlife centre and have never seen a fox that big. I might offer the explanation that if the fox's fur coat is fluffed up it would look considerably bigger. The fur on the fox in the picture above certainly looks quite fluffed up. A dog fox is always a bit bigger than a vixen and has a broader head, but I have to seriously doubt whether any fox would ever grow as big as a German Shephard dog or a wolf.

Yep I also work for a wildlife rescue charity and deal with foxes regularly. I doubt this person has ever seen a wolf for comparison, frankly, as if he had, he would realise that it is simply an impossibility.
The phrase "jumping on the bandwagon" springs to mind!!!

Oh come on. These fox stories are getting more and more ridiculous. Do you honestly think the British public are so stupid as to believe what is turning into a witch hunt that's timed so nicely to coincide with the proposed repeal of the hunting act.
If this is the best the Tally-Ho Hooray Henry's can come up with then perhaps they should set their hounds on themselves and put themselves out of their misery.

Absolutely hilarious.
As big as a wolf or a German Shepherd? Seriously?
We all know men are a little unreliable when boasting about the size of things but this is extreme to say the least.
To be honest, there are so many scary things out in the big wide world that might make me want to keep my french doors closed (if I had any french doors that is), that a beautiful fox- even a huge, mutant giant one, is the least of my worries…..
