It’s playground politics! Twins, aged just 18-months, receive polling card to VOTE

A young mum was shocked when her twin boys received polling cards to vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections – despite being just 18-months-old.

Harriet Hurdman, 22, says she was left in fits of laughter after her baby sons Lennon and Finley were accidentally registered to vote.

The twins received their polling cards in the post last week – despite not being able to legally cast their votes for another 16 years.

Mum Harriet who lives in Harvington, Worcs., said: “I found it all pretty amusing and couldn’t stop laughing.

“I was really confused as I thought you had to be 18 to vote.

“Other people have found it hilarious too. They can’t even string a sentence together – let alone make an informed decision on who should be police commissioner.”

Yesterday the twins’ grandad Kevin Hurdman, 53, revealed he still plans to take them to the polling station anyway.

He added: “We had quite a chuckle and found the whole thing quite hilarious.

“We are not up in arms about it really – because it’s just so funny.

“I may take them down with me to the polling station regardless. You never know they might get away with it.”

Elaine Dicks, Electoral Services Manager at Wychavon District Council admitted it was easy for people to get confused and register underaged voters.

She said: “We ask people to declare anyone who is over eighteen in the household and this is a legal declaration which we have to take on good faith.

“On rare occasions residents do get confused and think they need to list everyone who lives with them.”

Voting for the new position will take place on Thursday this week.
