Top Gun meets Top Gear this Sunday when Hollywood star Tom Cruise appears on the hit TV show.
Cruise will be the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car where he chats to presenter Jeremy Clarkson before driving a Kia Cee’d round the show’s track in a bid to set the fastest time.
The pint-sized mega star will be joined by Cameron Diaz who he stars alongside in new flick Knight and Day.
Securing Tom Cruise as a guest is a departure from the calibre of some of the show’s early stars which included Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Neil Morrissey and Carol Vorderman.
Top Gear script editor Richard Porter said: “We used to reflect on the idea of a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car and cackle quietly to ourselves. ‘Tom Cruise!’ we would smirk, ‘Tom Cruise in a crappy Korean hatchback!’
“It’s fair to say we’ve never had two bigger guests and for the past week the air in the office has been alive with a sort of sweaty-palmed excitement.”
Sunday’s show will also see a different side to James ‘Captain Slow’ May who will be driving the new Bugatti Veyron Super Sports – the fastest ever production car.
Top Gear is on BBC2 on Sunday at 8pm
