BBC show Top Gear picked up the award for Best Factual Show at last night’s National Television Awards – and couldn’t resist poking fun at the Sky Sports sexism scandal.
Picking up the award, James May said: “We’d like to say a special thank you to the girl who put the microphone down our trousers earlier on.”
Jeremy Clarkson, who joked that Top Gear hadn’t been factual for seven years, added: “You’re sacked.”
The stars’ comments referred to Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray after footage emerged of him jokily asking co-presenter Charlotte Jackson to do the same thing.
Gray was sacked from his £1.7 million-a-year role as the face of football as a result of this and his sexist comments about assistant referee Sian Massey.
His colleague Richard Keys yesterday quit Sky for his role in the episode – which has seen FOUR different controversial videos leaked onto the internet since Sunday.
