Five thugs have been jailed for a ”sickening” nightclub attack which ended the promising career of a British soldier.
Elliot Corp and Michael Montauro
James Bolton, 25, suffered a fractured eye socket in July after he was punched to the floor and repeatedly kicked and stamped on during an horrific unprovoked assault.
He needed metal plates inserted in his skull after the savage attack, which was captured on CCTV – and was downgraded from his position in the Army.
As a result his injuries Mr Bolton was downgraded from his position in the Army and was unable to fulfil his ambition of becoming a physical instructor.
Damien Gwazeni, Michael Montauro, Elliott Corp, David Coleman and Chaney King were jailed for their part in the assault at Swindon Crown Court on Friday (3/12).
They pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and were handed jail terms totalling 11-and-a-half years.
After witnessing the shocking CCTV footage of the attack, Judge Douglas Field said: “All of you joined in this sickening attack against this young man in a nightclub and the violence is really quite frightening to witness, this will not be tolerated.
”This is very serious and watching the video makes it clear just how serious this was.
”There is no excuse at all for this sort of behaviour and I take the view that the whole incident is so serious that all of you are going to receive imminent custodial sentences.”
The court heard the vicious incident took place in the early hours of July 30 inside Liquid and Envy Nightclub in Swindon, Wilts.
Mr Bolton and a 22-year-old local woman had been on a night out with friends when they were approached by the gang.

The soldier was punched to the floor of the nightclub and kicked and jumped on repeatedly, while the woman was punched.
Colin Meeke, prosecuting, said Mr Bolton’s career had been thrown into jeopardy as a result of the attack.
He said: ”Not only has he suffered physically, but also financially.”
In a statement to police read to Swindon Crown Court, Mr Bolton said: ”As a result of the attack I have received a great deal of mental and physical pain.
”I have had severe headaches on a regular basis, I am constantly tired, but as a member of the Armed Forces I am expected to maintain a high level of fitness.”
Judge Field sentenced Montauro to four years, Damien Gwazeni to 46 months and handed David Coleman 14 months detention in a young offenders institute.

Elliot Corp was sentenced to 18 months detention and Chaney King was given 12 months detention.
Detective Constable James Newbery, from Wiltshire Police, said: ”This was a violent, prolonged and completely unacceptable attack resulting in one of the victims suffering serious head injuries.
”As a serving member of the Armed Forces these injuries have had and continue to have a huge impact on his life leaving him unable to pursue the career path he had begun to embark on.
”The vast majority of people enjoying a night out in Swindon do so safely and within the law.
”However, this case and the sentences given today should highlight to that small number intent on acting outside the law that their behaviour will not be tolerated and we will always fully investigate these crimes and take all appropriate action against those individuals responsible.”
