A teenager who missed out on years of school after a horror road accident used the time to write a NOVEL – which has now been published.
Plucky Lucy Godfrey, 17, suffered serious injuries after crashing a mini-motorbike near her home when she was just 14.
The devastating accident lead to a number of medical complications which prevented her returning to school.
But while stuck at home Lucy put pen to paper and began writing her first novel Forbidden Lives – a story of a troubled girl called Millie.
She put it aside while she was home schooled through her GCSEs but after her exams found the hand-ridden manuscript and typed it up.
Lucy, whose parents run a post office in Looe, Cornwall, sent it to a publisher and the book is now available in hardback for £16.99.
She said: ”I’ve always written here and there so I just started writing out of boredom when I was off school.
”I didn’t think anything of it at the time but when I was clearing out a cupboard after my GCSEs, I found it and thought it could be something.
”I typed it up and sent it off and they accepted it – I signed the contract thee day after my GCSE results. It’s only really sinking in now.
‘It was only when I got a copy of the book through in the post and saw my name in print that it seems real.
”It’s been my ambition to have a book published since I was a little girl so in a way I feel really fulfilled – even though I’m only 17.”
Forbidden Lives is the story of a troubled teenager called Millie who comes from a disrupted family background.
She seeks love and acceptance ”in all the wrong places” and begins drinking and partying before moving cities and turning her life around.
The synopsis reads: ”She then meets the man of her dreams but will the final tragedy in her life be too much for her to bear?”
Forbidden Lives costs £16.99 from Book Guild Publishing and is available in bookshops and the internet.
