Police raced to a pub to arrest an offender – who broke a curfew to watch England play in the World Cup.
Mark Townsend, 19, wears an electronic tag to ensure he stays at home between 7pm and 7am.
But officials were alerted after he broke the curfew to go to a pub to watch England’s draw with the USA.
Officers in Torquay, Devon, arrested him and he appeared at Torbay Magistrates Court for breaking the order.
He narrowly avoided being jailed for the offence and was told to watch the rest of the games at his house.
Magistrate Mark Haddow said: ”’Watch the football at home or you will go to prison.”
Townsend, of Ashburton, Devon, is due in court next month for an arson offence.
