Stunning picture of double rainbow photographed in Coventry

This stunning picture of a rare ‘double rainbow’ was captured after a torrential downpour in a city suburb.

It was snapped by Rachael Bint, 30, who spotted it outside her home in Coventry, West Mids., last Saturday afternoon.

They are caused when raindrops reflect sunlight at two different angles creating a second perfectly-formed, yet fainter, arc above the orignal rainbow.

Double-rainbows are created after heavy downpours because there are more raindrops to reflect the sunlight upwards but they are normally too faint to see.

Rachael said: ”It was taken in the late afternnon from the bottom of my street following a torrential downpour.

”I have never seen anything like it before. You feel lucky when you see just one rainbow but to see two is really magical.”
