Cambridge University was rocked yesterday after a law student was found dead – the second in just one week.
Second year undergraduate Pavel Kantchev, 22, was discovered in his bedroom at historic Girton College on Monday.
Just one week earlier, the body of George Starling, 19, a second year engineering student at Peterhouse College, was found in his student apartment at 3.20pm.
Police are not treating the deaths as suspicious and Cambridge University says it is not linking the deaths.
Andrew Jefferies, Senior Tutor at Girton College, paid tribute to keen tennis player and college fundraiser Pavel as an ”excellent” student.
He said: ”It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of second year law undergraduate Pavel Kantchev who was found dead in his room on Monday.
”Pavel was an excellent student with a bright future in front of him. The College extends deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
A student at Girton College, who did not want to be named, said students at the institution were ”completely shocked” about the tragedy.
She said: ”It is just so tragic. I knew Pavel reasonably well and this has come as a huge shock to me and his friends.
”No one really knows what happened, we haven’t been told how he died. It is a real tragedy.”
Students were set to attend a chapel service held at the College last night.
A police spokeswoman said: ”Officers were called at 12.30pm on Monday to attend the sudden death of a 22-year-old student at the college.
”This death is not being treated as suspicious and has been passed to the coroner.”
Rest in peace i will miss you!
Pavel, you will be missed, rest in peace.
Rest in peace Pavel. I just heard the new I grew up with Pavel father and my sympathy are with the family.
This is really strange but over the past two weeks, I keep having a re-occuring dream where two young men fall from nowhere unconcious in front of me but I dont recognise their faces. I have been praying and fasting for the young men in my family as I find this dream disturbing. Look after yourselves young men everywhere.
