Liverpool footballer Ryan Babel could face disciplinary action from the FA after he posted a mock up image of referee Howard Webb in a Manchester United shirt.
The Dutchman posted the image after World Cup Final ref Webb handed bitter rivals Man United a controversial first minute penalty before sending off influential captain Steven Gerrard just past the half-hour mark in a Third Round FA Cup tie.
Following the one-nil defeat at Old Trafford, Babel uploaded a photoshopped image of Webb, 39, wearing a Man United home shirt.
He also tweeted: “And they call him one of the best referees. That’s a joke. smh.” SMH is an abbreviation of ‘shake my head’.
The FA last night confirmed it will be investigating the 24-year-old’s actions.
He was the second Liverpool player over the weekend to become embroiled in a Twitter storm following comments made by defender Glen Johnson.

The England right-back was criticised for his performances this season by former footballer Paul Merson on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday.
But Johnson responded to the criticism by tweeting: “Comments from alcoholic drug abusers are not really gonna upset me and who is Paul Merson to judge players, he was average at the best of times.
“The only reason he’s on that show is coz he gambled all his money away. The clown!”
The England defender promptly deleted the comment following after being criticised by fellow users of Twitter.
It rounds up a rotten three weeks for Liverpool footballers on social networks. Defender Paul Konchesky’s mum was criticised after she made comments about Scousers on Facebook following her son’s disappointing debut season at Anfield.
That’s really funny!!! LOL
who is Ryan Babel? has he ever won anything?
I think Johnsons remarks re Paul Merson are justified, I’ve heard him running his mouth off a few times re the performance of players far superior to wht he was. No use asking him about his own performance’s he probably would’nt remember most of them
