Singer Rebecca Black will be pleased to hear that the video for her song Friday has become a huge viral hit.
But she won’t be smiling for long after realising its ‘popularity’ is down to listeners declaring it “the worst song of the decade.”
The video has racked up almost two million hits on YouTube thanks to users’ fascination with the teenager’s over-autotuned vocals and cringeworthy lyrics.
Lines such as “Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday/ Today is Friday, Friday” and the even more informative “Tomorrow is Saturday/ Sunday comes afterwards” have had many in stitches at their genius.
Other details in the video, such as an open-top car driven by what looks like a bunch of 13-year-olds, have drawn ridicule and inspired multiple YouTube parodies.
The singer’s lack of official website and the fact there seems to be no other information about her on the net has led many to question whether the video is all just a big spoof.
All anyone knows about the mysterious Rebecca is that her song was posted on YouTube by Ark Music Factory, a Los Angeles-based record label that scouts for Bieber-like performers aged 13 to 17.
