A professional county cricket club has launched an internal inquiry after one of their players was caught naked in a supermarket.
The unnamed player had played for Hampshire’s second XI in an Twenty20 match against Kent last Thursday.
Kent won the game at their home ground in Folkestone by 47 runs but that didn’t stop the visitors having a good time.
Some of the players spent the night drinking at the Ashford International Hotel before one was dared to streak through the adjoining Sainsbury’s store.
He was challenged to buy a bottle of vodka but checkout workers refused to serve him and alerted the duty manager.
He called police around 4.20am and although no arrest was made the player has found himself in trouble with his club.
Deputy store manager Jamie Curtis said: “We realise this was meant to be a bit of fun, but to avoid any embarrassment we asked the young man to leave the store straight away.
“We look forward to seeing him in store again – fully clothed.”
Hampshire Cricket Club said: “We are aware of an alleged incident in Ashford last week and are conducting a thorough internal enquiry.
“Swift and appropriate action will be taken depending on the outcome of our own investigations.”
