The dad of former Premier League star Danny Guthrie has been convicted of headbutting a man and breaking his nose during a vicious road rage attack.
Sean Guthrie, 46, attacked motorist Wayne Dodden, 46, after he accused him of swearing at him from his car on January 29.
Guthrie drove up behind Mr Dodden in his Audi Q7 sounding his horn before his victim pulled over on Grainger Drive in Telford, Shrops.
A court heard the tattooed thug then lunged at the driver with his head causing his nose to explode with blood.
Mr Dodden went to hospital where he was treated for a broken nose and Guthrie was arrested.
On Wednesday he was found guilty of assault and making threats after a trial at Telford Magistrates Court.
Guthrie – who wore grey tracksuit bottoms and a Mike Tyson hoodie for his sentencing – was ordered to complete an anger management course and pay Mr Dodden £1,000 in compensation.
But Guthrie – whose son was sold by Bolton Wanderers to Newcastle United for £2.5 million in 2008 – claimed his only income was £71.70 a week in benefits and could only pay the injured man £5 per week.
Prosecuting, Sara Beddow said Guthrie attacked Mr Dodden after driving closely behind the terrified driver along three different roads in the town.
She said: “In his wing mirror, Mr Dodden could see Mr Guthrie had stopped his car, got out and was approaching his car.
“He put his head out of the window and asked what on earth was wrong.
“Mr Dodden got out of the vehicle to try to diffuse the situation but Mr Guthrie shouted aggressively.
“He walked right up and headbutted him on the bridge of his nose.
“This was done with such force Mr Dodden heard the crack of a bone and his glasses came off.
“He retrieved his glasses from the ground and felt blood running down his face.”
Guthrie, from Donnington, Shrops., was also handed a 12-month community order in which he must complete six hours of anger management sessions.
The attack was not the first time he had come to the attention of the police.
Officers were called out to reports of a brawl at his son’s £40,000 wedding in 2012.
It was alleged Guthrie was involved in the fracas, in which the bride was reportedly punched in the face.
Son Danny, 26, is currently with Championship side Reading and has previously played for Liverpool, Southampton, Bolton and Newcastle United.
