Police have launched a murder investigation after an 87-year-old woman was found dead – at a care home.
Officers were called to Oaktree House in Yate, south Gloucestershire, after staff reported the sudden death of the pensioner on Wednesday afternoon.
A 33-year-old man, who is not a member of staff at the home, was later arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Yate and remains in custody.
The victim’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Detective Inspector Neil Meade from the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “This is a tragic but isolated incident.
“Our investigation began yesterday soon after the death was reported to us and continues today. We have one man in custody and we’re not currently looking for anyone else.”
Oaktree House is run by Four Seasons Health Care, the UK’s biggest provider of nursing homes, care homes and specialist units throughout the UK.
It is a purpose built home providing residential and nursing care for those with and without dementia.
Four Seasons operate more than 500 homes and employs 30,000 staff across the country.
