Nani has spoken out about the FA’s decision not to discipline Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher after his tackle left a gash in the Man United winger’s shin.
Carragher made the challenge during the first-half of Liverpool’s recent win at Anfield, resulting in Nani leaving the field on a stretcher in tears.
The Liverpool defender escaped with a yellow card with some fearing Nani’s season was in tatters.
But the influential star made a quicker-than-expected recovery and appeared for United in Tuesday night’s Champions League victory against Marseille.
The FA is unable to take retrospective action if the incident has already been dealt with by the referee – as United argued in the recent case when Wayne Rooney appeared to elbow Wigan’s James McCarthy.
However, Nani feels that the authorities should have made an example of the Liverpool favourite in an attempt to clamp down on supposedly reckless challenges.
The 24-year-old told The Telegraph: “The first time I looked at my leg, I was thinking, ‘The season is finished for me now’. That’s why I was crying.
“The referee can decide after to say something to the FA. When there’s a tackle like that, the player should be sent off. I want referees to pay more attention when players make tackles like that.
“The referee said afterwards that he saw my leg. The injury could have ended my season.”
United controversially decided not to speak to the media after the 3-1 defeat on Merseyside due to an FA disciplinary hanging over boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s head.
The FA yesterday handed Ferguson a five-match touchline and £30,000 fine for comments he made about referee Martin Atkinson’s performance in the club’s defeat at Chelsea.
Should UEFA allow retrospective action or does it undermine the referee? Have your say below
Nani is a cry baby.
Carragher should have kicked him harder and broke both his legs….the little cheating girl deserved it.
Rafael’s challenge was more worthy of a red though!!

Mr Amuk, i think you’ll find that Fergie is the one who’s been banned for 5 games.
Would cry-baby Ninny, sorry, Nani, like to make a comment on a certain MUck player who has put a Bolton player out of action for weeks and ended up with 27 stitches?? Old Red Nose seems quiet on that topic as well !
