This is the moment a woman visiting a pub sank more than just a drink – after her CAR was swamped by the sea.
The unlucky driver had been with a friend and spent the evening at The Ship Inn in the village of Noss Mayo, Devon.
She parked outside but fierce winds and heavy rain soar a heavy tide ”surge” in and deluge the gold Vauxhall Astra.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was swept away in an instant and when she the lady returned at 9pm it was already flooded with water.
The elderly woman, who asked not to be named, said it was ‘a nightmare’ watching her beloved vehicle submerged in the estuary on Thursday night.
She said: ”It was a nightmare. I’d had the car a long, long time. But these things happen, I suppose, I will have to get a new one now.”
The owner’s friend, Cynthia Tarrant, believes the vehicle is a write-off.
She said: “It was a very high spring tide, very powerful. It can be almost like the Severn Bore down here.
“It comes in so strong and fast there are often boats getting overturned and washed up. She left here at 9pm and then it was completely under the water.”
Local residents gave her a lift back to her nearby home and the car, with seaweed hanging out the windows, was towed away.
Not the first time 🙂
