A ‘depressed’ radio presenter who went missing earlier this week has been found alive and well in Cumbria.
BBC Bristol broadcaster Peter Rowell, 52, sparked a huge search involving a police helicopter after he failed to turn up for work on Tuesday morning.
The presenter, who was said to be vulnerable following the death of his father, was last seen parking his Jaguar in a supermarket car park in Yate, south Gloucestershire.
But the former ITV anchorman was found ‘alive and well’ at 9.30pm on Wednesday night in the Lake District town of Keswick.
Avon and Somerset police spent Wednesday searching along the banks of the River Frome in Yate and scarmbled the force helicopter.
They had serious concerns for Gloucestershire-based Mr Rowell’s wellbeing, with the broadcaster understood to be depressed following the death of his father.
A police spokesperson said: ”Peter Rowell has been found safe and well this evening in the Cumbria area.
”He is currently receiving medical treatment.
”Police would like to thank the public for their help and assistance.”
Dear Peter
Thank God you have been found, you are a well loved and highly respected broadcaster. Take the time you need to recharge and we look forward to having you back in circulation soon. xxx
To a much respected TV personality, we are all glad you are safe, as already mentioned, take your time to recharge. You have friends you have never met, yet see you on a regular basis – i think i speak for all of us friends when i say we are extremely happy that you are safe. Take as much time as you need Peter.
The darkest hour is before dawn. Although you may not think it, the worst is now over. Hand yourself over to the care and support of those who know – and one day you will be able to help others through their own personal nightmare.
I am so glad too. I lost my father after years of care due to a progressive debilitating illness. All of a sudden you are doing more and more, then they are gone. I can quite understand Mr Rowell just clearing off out of it all for some peace and self healing. We’ve all felt like that at some time or other. I wish Mr Rowell well, as he is a much loved presenter here in the West of England and hope he gets the support of friends and family that he needs at this time. I always said with my father, when he goes we will always be able to say we did our very best for him. Its two years ago now, that he died, almost to the day. Life goes on. Grief is the price we pay for love and it does get easier with time.
Delighted to hear that you are safe Peter, we’ve had a couple of worrying days thinking about you, I’ll not forget a good friend.
