England striker Michael Owen could be following his international teammate David James to Bristol City, according to the football rumour mill.
The Manchester United star is rumoured to be on his way to Ashton Gate to put pen to paper over a three-month loan deal.
Bristol City fansites have been awash with supporters discussing the prospect of Owen, who has scored 40 international goals, joining goalkeeper David James at the Championship outfit.
Christopher E wrote on the forum OTIB: “This is crazy but after DJ I just don’t know what to take seriously,” while Ryan_BCFC added “James and Owen at city would be insane, James on his own is hard to believe let alone one of England’s best ever strikers.”
But the rumour has been met with some scepticism from City’s fans.
Dan of the Dolman said: “If this one is pulled off, I will be extremely gobsmacked and may even consider a streak through the KFC Drive-Thru.”
However, the prospect of Owen joining United isn’t as far fetched as first imagined with first choice striker Nicky Maynard missing at least the first month of the new season.
The forward, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, is will sit behind Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and new boy Javier Hernández in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Sending Owen to the Championship for three months would give the 30-year-old some valuable game time and sharpen him up for the second half of the Premier League season. And new boss Steve Coppell has a good relationship with Man United following his time as a player at Old Trafford.
