An unemployed 29-year-old is facing up to the prospect of becoming Britain’s youngest grandfather.
The layabout – who was 14 when he became a father – will pick up the unenviable crown in August when his schoolgirl daughter gives birth.
His 14-year-old daughter has only been seeing her boyfriend, 15, for a few months and became pregnant by the aspiring rugby player at the end of 2010.
The benefit scrounger told The Sun:”It’s quite mad… I’m about to be a grandad.
“I was 14 when my daughter was born – and now she’s having a baby.”
“She is very young but was determined to keep the child.
“We were not going to force her into doing anything else. We don’t want her to hate us.
“She is not the only girl at her school to become pregnant or to have a baby.
“We don’t blame the lad who got her pregnant – it takes two.”
The teenager, who towers over the pint-sized father-to-be, is expected to raise the child with her mother and stepfather – who live on a council estate in south Wales.
It’s the girl’s mother and stepfather’s intention to look after the newborn child while their daughter continues her schooling.
Despite being unemployed himself, the stepfather had time to criticise the prospective grandad. He said: “I’m not sure that he has worked in his life.”
Britain has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe, with more than 41 girls in every 1,000 aged 15 to 17 falling pregnant each year.
According to figures released in 2009, around 8,200 girls under 16 are estimated to have become pregnant in 2007, which represents just under 1% of all conceptions.
The number of conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 12 to 15 rose from 7.8 in 2006 to 8.1 in 2007. South Wales, where the expecting couple live, is one of the UK’s teen pregnancy hotspots.
