Julianne Moore is set to play everyone’s favourite beehive-sporting, gaffe-prone republican politician, Sarah Palin, in a TV film about the 2008 US elections.

HBO confirmed that Moore will be starring in Game Change, a film focusing on John McCain’s presidential campaign and his appointment of Palin as his deputy.

Directed by Meet The Parents’ Jay Roach, it will be based on the book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

The writers gave Palin a savaging, accusing her of behaving erratically and knowing nothing about foreign policy.

During the 2008 campaign the former Governor of Alaska was hugely popular when first revealed as McCain’s deputy – however, she soon became better known for her gaffes and ‘Palanisms’ than her political wizardry.

Some of her famous lines included being unable to name any newspapers or magazines she read – she eventually replied “All of ‘em” – and her claim that Russia was “next” to Alaska.

Later on in her career she claimed to be “like Shakespeare” when people mocked her for making up the word “refudiate.”

However, she has now regained popularity across the pond thanks to her involvement with the weirdly-named Tea Party movement and her reality TV show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska.

Julianne, who really doesn’t look much like Palin, is a four-time Oscar nominee who has starred in The Lost World, Boogie Nights and The Kids Are Alright.

HBO are yet to confirm any other cast members.
