Former England footballer Jamie Redknapp is the latest person to heap praise on Wayne Rooney following the Man United star’s “stunning” weekend strike.
Rooney scored an incredible overhead kick on Saturday to give title-chasing United victory in a hard-fought derby against Manchester City.
Despite being largely anonymous at Old Trafford, Rooney took the roof off the stadium when he sensationally volleyed the ball past a helpless Joe Hart from 15 yards out.
Rooney called it his best ever goal while some fans have called it the greatest goal ever scored at Old Trafford.
Now Jamie Redknapp, who scored his fair share of great strikes during his career, has praised Rooney’s lunchtime winner.
In his newspaper column, he wrote: “There are moments in sport when you are proud to say ‘I was there’. Wayne Rooney’s overhead-kick winner was one of those occasions.
“It wasn’t his best all-round performance, but three goals in his last two home games gives you a sense he is on his way back to rediscovering his form.
“If that goal doesn’t inspire confidence, what will? A stunning technical execution.”
Over-hyped or justified? What do you think?
