Police were investigating today after a woman was found dead and at her home along with a man suffering ”serious injuries”.
Officers were called to the house in Stoke Climsland, near Callington, Cornwall, around noon yesterday after concern was raised when the woman did not turn up for work.
The man was taken to Derriford hospital in Plymouth, around 15 miles away, after receiving treatment from ambulance crews at the scene.
Neighbours in the sleepy village of Stoke Climsland said the incident was ”completely out of the blue”.
The dead woman was named locally as Amanda Sorrell, a divorced mum-of-two who worked in the Registrations department of Cornwall County Council.
One elderly neighbour Terrence Shead said Amanda had a boyfriend who visited at weekends.
He said: ”Amanda moved in three or four years ago and is divorced. She had a boyfriend who visited at weekends.
”In the early hours of Saturday morning, I heard a bang, it sounded like a door slamming and again in the early hours of Monday morning.
”This is been completely out of the blue. I’ve never heard any arguing coming from the house and this sort of thing just doesn’t happen round here
”A work colleague phoned the police because Amanda had not been into work
”She was a mother of two sons. She was a very nice person.”
Another neighbour, who also did not want to be named, said news of the incident had come as ”a complete shock”.
He said: ”I vaguely knew Amanda, I used to see her walking her dog with her boyfriend. She was always chatty and friendly and it?s an absolute shock that this has happened.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the death of the woman was being treated as ”unexplained”.
He said: ”The death is currently being treated as unexplained, as are how the man came to be injured.
”This is a very early stage in this enquiry and we have not had the opportunity to speak with the injured man at this time as he is undergoing hospital treatment.
”We are currently in the process of examining the scene of the incident and the results of that will help us start to build up a picture of what took place today.
”Until we speak to the injured man we will not have a clearer picture of what occurred.”
Officers were in the process of informing next of kin for the woman, he added.
He appealed for anyone with information to contact the force on 08452 777444 quoting police ref. 335 270910.
