It’s his best catch yet……..
A humble British fisherman who married the daughter of one of the world’s richest men has returned home for his wedding reception – in a £100million SUPER YACHT.
Proud Guy Barnett, 35, once worked on a battered weather-beaten boat taking small groups of tourists mackerel fishing off Dartmouth in Devon.
But eight years ago he went to work for John Risley – the billionaire owner of a food empire and the largest fishing fleet in North America and Canada.
Guy got a job working as a deck hand aboard one of John’s yachts, where he met his daughter and heiress Sarah Risley, 35.
The pair fell in love and married in Nova Scotia on Friday and have now returned to Britain for a wedding reception.
They sailed back into Dartmouth – where Guy used to work in an 80-year-old Cornish fishing boat – on John’s £100million super yacht ‘Northern Star’.
Guy invited friends and family on board the 75m six-deck vessel for a lavish party.
He said: ”We came back for a wedding reception on the yacht so that our friends here could attend.
”It was a great party and we had about 80 guests in the evening, including some of my childhood friends.
”We are very grateful to the father of the bride for letting us use his yacht for the reception. It is fantastic and very homely inside.
”I met Sarah when I was working on a yacht as deck crew and she was a guest. We married in Canada and came back for the reception on the Northern Star. It was great fun.”
Guy spent his early career taking groups of holidaymakers on mackerel fishing trips around Dartmouth in a battered old Cornish fishing boat which was built in 1920.
But in 2001 he went to work as a crew member on board one of John Risley’s yachts where he met Sarah, his future wife.
Guy’s step-mum Anne Barnett said: ”Guy was a keen fisherman and he used to take fishing parties out before he started working for Sarah’s father.
”He used an old Cornish Drifter, which needed some work as it was built in 1920. Sarah is a lovely girl, so he has done very well for himself.”
John Risley, 62, stared his career with one small lobster shop in 1976 and went on to become the founder and director of Clearwater Seafoods.
The firm is now one of the world’s leading seafood companies and operates a large fleet of vessels and several processing plants throughout Eastern Canada.
He is one of America’s wealthiest men and also runs a telecom firm in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as a building a research and development fisheries business.
Risley, of Mahone Bay in Nova Scotia, also runs Ocean Nutrition, the world’s largest producer of omega-3 fatty acids, and has a vast property development portfolio.
Guy married his Canadian bride last week and John brought over the monster yacht – which can be chartered for £533,000 a week – from its mooring in Gibraltar.
The couple entertained 30 guests for lunch at the reception and a further 50 at an evening bash with a DJ and buffet.
Anne added: ”They brought the Northern Star here to celebrate with all Guy’s friends and family.
”The yacht is very nicely set out inside. It’s wonderful. We had lunch on board the boat and then there was a big party in the evening.”
The steel and aluminium-built yacht has accommodation for dozens of guests and can carry a crew of twenty two.
It has twin caterpillar diesel engines which allow a maximum speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.
The boat, designed by Espen Oeino and built by Lurssen Yachts, is equipped with a helipad and a grand “country-house” style interior.
Dartmouth harbour master and pilot David White said the Northern Star was the ”height of luxury”.
He said: ”She’s a very well equipped vessel and had has every possible navigational aid. She can go into any port in the world.
”She is less than 12 months old and a classic example of a modern build.”
Andy Kyle, who snapped the yacht when it arrived, added: ”All these boats bring pretty large numbers of people to the town to see them and Northern Star is no exception.”

Excuse my correction, but I’m quite proud to clarify that Mr. Risley is not an “American Billionaire”, he’s Canadian, and from the Province of Nova Scotia. You may not think that there’s much of a difference between the two, but be well assured that it’s a much harder thing to achieve here in Canada, as many of the Americans have the better part of their initial fortune handed to them by absentee parents.

Sorry to burst your bubble Jason L but Canada is part of America, North America to be exact and thus he can be called an American. There are quite a few Canadian billionaires as Canada is a huge country with a great wealth of resources and one can easily become a billionaire, relatively speaking in Alberta, which is also in Canada.

Sorry to burst YOUR bubble john gilbunni but Canada is most definitely NOT part of America.By that logic everyone on the same continent can be identified by one country. Would you also consider Mexicans to be American? Or perhaps all of Saudia Arabia is Chinese? North America is a continent and in modern media almost whenever you read American it refers to a person from the United States of America, and not the entire continent itself, the author (like you, albeit his/her mistake might just be a typo, yours sir is a true fallacy of logic) was in the wrong for not clarifying.
