A pensioner had the fright of his life when he accidentally snapped a “ghostly monk” standing in a field.
Retired council worker Des Smith, 71, only spotted the creepy figure when he returned home and looked at the pictures he had taken that day.
He said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. I was out walking my dog and had my camera on me, as I usually do.
“I love taking photographs of fields and rural scenes so just stopped and clicked away.
“When I got home I put them onto my computer and that’s when I noticed something unusual about this particular photo.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s definitely a ghost. Nothing was in the field when I took the photograph.
“I showed the photo to my son and he says it’s definitely a spirit.”
Des, whose son Neil is a psychic medium, took the photograph on farmland near his home in Chettisham, Cambs.
He said: “We think it’s the ghost of either a woman wearing a cloak or a hooded monk.
“You only have to read one of the many books on the history of this area to realise that spirits of monks are frequently seen.”
Grandfather Des, a former groundsman, added: “I’ve had numerous experiences over the years – hearing voices and seeing strange things – and to me there is definitely another world out there.
“I certainly don’t think it’s a case of that when you die you go away altogether.”
Ummm first time I knew, I never said it was a spirit I couldn’t make it out ! And I never gave paper permission to use my name !
