Get your tips out: Bikini baristas cause a stir

An American coffee house is causing a stir thanks to its bikini-clad baristas.

Customers at the Hot Spot Coffee Company are greeted by attractive young ladies in high heels dressed in bikinis, swimwear and sexy lingerie.

And following the success of stores in Waterford and Troy, Michigan, owners Brenda and Gary Zelda opened a third store in nearby Brighton.

Despite a few reservations from locals, Hot Spot Coffee Company owners Brenda and Gary insist they are doing nothing wrong and describe the concept as “sexy/flirty/fun”.

They have a ‘Topless Tuesday’ where the coffee is served without a lid while customers can take advantage of the unlimited refills offered through the ‘Bottomless Wednesday’ promotion.

Brighton Township manager Dan Bishop told the Detroit News: “They’ve got a marketing gimmick that’s a little outrageous.

“As long as they are in compliance with the township codes and ordinances, they’re legal and free to operate.”

Brenda Zelda added: “It’s a unique way to gain attention and awareness from the general public – it’s a fun thing to do.”

Since the Brighton store’s opening last week, the Hot Spot Coffee Company Facebook page has had a surge in ‘hits’ with more than 10,000 people visiting it and 770 becoming ‘fans’ of the coffee shop.
