Elizabeth Taylor has died at the age of 79.
ABC news is reporting that the legendary actress passed away this morning due to congestive heart failure.
The Hollywood icon began her 60-year career at the tender age of ten, starring in films such as There’s One Born Every Minute and Lassie Come Home.
She went on to portray some of the most legendary characters in cinema history throughout her 60-year career, including her much-celebrated portrayal of Cleopatra in Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s 1963 classic.
She twice walked away with the Best Actress Oscar for her roles in Butterfiled 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, as well as being nominated for the title a further three times.
Elizabeth was also famed for her tumultuous personal life, which included eight marriages to seven different men.
She divorced fifth husband Richard Burton in 1974 after ten years together, only to re-marry him the following year. The couple finally parted ways in 1976.
Elizabeth was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II on New Year’s Eve 1999.
However, her later years were coloured by ill health.
She was treated for alcoholism in the 1980’s and, more recently, had been receiving treatment for congestive heart failure. She had been kept in hospital for monitoring since 13 February this year.
Elizabeth is survived by four children, ten grandchildren and four great grand-children.
Her son Michael Wilding released a statement today saying: “We will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to the world.”
A private family funeral will be held later this week.
R.I.P a true Old-Hollywood legend.
