This lucky teenager had better be one-L of a fast learner after getting behind the wheel of a red – 202mph Ferrari.
The teen was spotted driving the gleaming #170,000 Ferrari ‘458 Italia’ as he negotiated the congested streets of Knightsbridge in London.
He parked the supercar near Harrods and popped in to do a bit of shopping to return with his ‘instructor’ father to find a crowd of onlooker pointing at the L-plate on the supercar.
The youngster, with a little guidance from his dad, coolly pulled away to continue his luxury learner experience.
But he may have already picked up some bad habits – with the Ferrari later appearing to be parked illegally on a single red line.
YouTube user Shmee150, who travels around London filming supercars, was amazed when he saw the Ferrari sporting an L-plate.
In recent weeks he has videoed a number of million pound-plus vehicles cruising around affluent areas of the capital but this was among his weirdest spots.
He said: ”Seeing supercars in London is an everyday sight but never before have I seen one with an L-plate.
”At first I assumed it must just be a joke but to discover he genuinely was having a lesson in the Ferrari was mind-boggling.”
A road safety expert supported the idea of youngsters learning to drive in high performance vehicles.
Andrew Howard, head of road safety at The AA, said: ”There’s an argument for learning to drive in a supercar.
”If you’re someone like a high-earning professional footballer then you’re more likely to spend your money on a supercar than a supermini.
”So it makes more sense to learn in a powerful car than pass your test and have your first experience in one of these vehicles unsupervised.
”But for the same reason, there would be little sense in learning to drive in a Ferrari and then jumping into a small car afterwards.”
The teenager would have had to pay more than £30,000 to insure the car on his own.
Insurance provider Confused.com had to bypass the traditional form and say the youngster was a FATHER and a DOCTOR just to get a quote.
The database returned a staggering annual premium of £30,000 based on the teen covering 10,000 miles per year with a £500 excess.
Mike Hoban, marketing director of Confused.com, said: ”With insurance cover as rare as this, the motorist would normally put their details in a form and wait for a couple of days to get an exact quote.
”I’m confident we’d be able to find a price which would save him some money but it’s likely to be in excess of £30,000.”
The youngster, incidentally, was photographed driving without a front registration plate – a motoring offence punishable by a fine of up to £1,000.
The Ferrari 458 Italia went on sale last year and has been heralded as one of the greatest cars to wear the iconic badge.
Ferrari fitted the exotic motor with a 4.5-litre V8 engine which develops 582bhp – giving the powerful car a 0-62mph time of just 3.4 seconds and top speed of 202mph.
Owners of the Italian car have included DJ Chris Evans, chef Gordon Ramsay and footballer Frank Lampard.
