A female detective sergeant who stole nearly £10,000 from her police officer boyfriend has walked free from court.
Lying Carmen Hall, 40, pinched £9,276 from Pc Mark Jones’ credit card in May 2007.
At the time she was in a relationship with Pc Jones and both worked for Staffordshire Police at Burton-upon-Trent police station, Staffs.
Hall was found guilty of two counts of fraud and perverting the course of justice at Birmingham Crown Court.
But she walked free from court after receiving a 24 week sentence suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
During an eight-day trial last month the court heard Hall, from Tutbury, Staffs., stole £4,976 from Pc Jones’ credit card in May 2007.
While working in the intelligence department at Burton police station she transferred a further £4,300 from his credit card.
Hall resigned from the police force before she was sentenced on Friday.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said after her conviction: ”An investigation was launched into Carmen Hall by Staffordshire Police’s Professional Standards Department after a complaint was received by the force in April 2008.
”As a result, at Birmingham Crown Court on 2 September she was convicted of credit card fraud committed when she was off-duty in May 2007.
”She was also convicted of perverting the course of justice, relating to the same matter.
”Carmen Hall had been working in a non-operational role at force headquarters in Stafford.
”Following the outcome at court, she has resigned from the force.
”Although her offences relate to a personal dispute, Staffordshire Police takes the integrity of its officers and staff very seriously and will thoroughly investigate any complaints of criminal behaviour.”
