David Beckham has kept his cockney twang despite living all around the globe, but the football star admits that his three sons tease him for being ‘so English.’
The former England captain told The Sun that Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and five-year-old Cruz have all picked up American accents.
He said: “They’ve got full-on American accents now but I don’t care.
“It makes me laugh when we go home and we see the parents and grandparents and they are like, ‘What’s happened to them?’
“The boys are funny. I was putting Cruz to bed the other night and I said something to him and he turned around to me and said, ‘Daddy – you’re so English.’
“I have lived in Spain, Milan and Manchester but I have never lost my East End accent and never will.”
David, 35, also admitted that he and wife Victoria are so happy in Los Angeles that they will not be returning to Britain when his five-year contract with LA Galaxy runs out next year.
He said: “We’re happy here at the moment. The boys are so happy and it’s the most important thing to us.
“We’ve got no immediate plans to come back.”
The sports-mad Beckham boys enjoy the outdoors lifestyle in sunny California and go riding and swimming every day after school.
Becks even took up hiking and bike riding in the Californian hills when he was off the pitch for six months with an Achilles tendon injury.
But he still dreams of one day slipping back in to the England shirt.
He said: “I’d love to still be involved. Everyone knows how passionate I am about playing for my country… If I’m needed then I’m available, and that’s the way it will stay.”
