A barmy cyclist pedals along a busy A-road – balancing a huge FRIDGE FREEZER on the back of his bike.
Traffic came to a standstill as he pedalled along the A1307 near Wandlebury, Cambs., with the bizarre load.
The huge domestic appliance was balanced upright on the pannier rack and held on by straps.
Passing motorist John Hicks, 38, from Sawston, Cambs., pulled over with his two daughters when he spotted the bizarre sight on February 12.
John, a marketing director, said: ”It was all very exciting. Other cars stopped too. We just couldn’t believe it. It was the most bizarre sight.
”I don’t know how he managed to balance the fridge on the bike. It caused no end of laughs. It just looked so strange.
”We heard he was heading to Linton which is a pretty long cycle, especially if you are carrying a fridge on the back of a bike.”
A Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesman today confirmed the force is aware of the incident.
He said: ”People should ride their bikes safely and not carry inappropriate loads.”
John added that the mystery cyclist was aged in his 60s and believes he carried the fridge freezer for at least three miles.
He said: ”The man looked like he was in his 60s. He was going at quite a speed for someone carrying that much weight – about five miles an hour.
”He must have travelled at least two or three miles to where I spotted him as there were no houses or buildings he could have come from.
”He must have gone on another mile from there. He waved at us as we pulled over so he must have been used to the attention by then.
”It’s not every day that you see something as crazy as that so I filmed it and took some pictures on my phone.”
I don’t see what the problem it. Fridge’s aren’t that heavy, and the heaviest bits are all at the bottom.
I’d be a bit worried about a crosswind though. Probably fine on a calm day.
