A pub has taken eating challenges to the next level with the launch of Britain’s biggest – MIXED GRILL.
The calorific feast consists of nine different forms of meat – all cooked over a charcoal grill – as well as array of sides including, chips, onion rings, mushrooms, tomatoes and four different sauces.
The food extravaganza, which costs hungry punters £44.95, includes a whopping two 8oz rump steaks, two chicken breasts, six sausages, one half-pound burger and a full rack of BBQ ribs, and has been concocted by The George pub in Stockton-on-Tees, Teeside.
Fearless foodies who take on the epic challenge must finish every last morsel within one hour to be inducted into the pub’s Facebook Hall of Fame as well as winning printed hoodie as memento.
Craig Harker, 28, the owner of The George, said: “I tried it myself and didn’t really put a dent in it.
“Eventually someone will do it. I didn’t want to create an impossible challenge.”
Everything on the grill can be found on the pub’s menu, with Craig keen to showcase what’s on offer with this gut-busting glutton-fest.
He said: “This challenge is about getting as much meat on there as possible from what we had on the menu, but at the end of the day the food also needs to taste good.”
“We are always doing different challenges. We’ve done a lot of burger challenges but decided to go for the biggest mixed grill in the UK.
The George has previously earned the title for the UK’s biggest burger and the UK’s tallest burger as well as building itself into local folklore with the
world’s biggest parmo – a Teeside specialty made of deep-fried breaded chicken topped with a bechemal sauce and cheese.
But anyone wishing to take on the challenge better be preparing in advance.
Craig said: “People need to give us 24 hours notice if they are going to do the challenge because the amount of meat on there takes up the whole grill.”
Sales advisor Vicky Thompson, 20, who attempted the challenge with her colleague Louise Hall, 20, said: “I don’t think I could ever finish it. I couldn’t even consume half of it.
“We gave it a go and it tasted great. I’d give it a go again but I don’t think I’d really make a dent in it.
“I thought it was really well presented considering the amount of meat on there.
“I’d like to see someone complete it, but I don’t think they ever will.”
