A bus firm has defended a driver over complaints he ran over – a family of DUCKS.
The double-decker was seen driving over a mother duck and nine babies during its round in Newquay, Cornwall.
An eyewitness claimed the vehicle could have avoided the animals which were killed in an ”explosion of feathers”.
But managing director of Western Greyhound Mark Howarth said the driver could not have avoided striking the ducks.
He said: ”The law states that bus drivers must ensure the comfort and safety of passengers is not compromised.
”It was raining, which made the road slippery, and the ducks just ran out in front of the bus. Passenger safety is our main concern.”
The complaint was made by motorist Anne-Marie Bradshaw who saw at least two ducks killed as she drove behind.
She said: ”The driver had plenty of time to move out the way, but chose to drive over some of them instead. It’s ridiculous.”
She stopped her car following the incident and has now taken the remaining ducks home to raise them.
