A brain-box teenager has achieved FIVE top A* grades at A-Level to win a place at Cambridge University – after getting a perfect score in ECONOMICS.
Talented Xiaoyuan Li, 18, bagged five A*’s in Maths, Further Maths, Economics, German and General Studies as well as an A in History.
Astonishingly, Xiaoyuan, who is from Birmingham, got 100 per cent in his Economics exam.
The pupil, at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys in Birmingham, puts his success down to “hard work” and “early nights”.
He plans to take a gap year at a think tank in London before going to study Economics at Cambridge University.
He said: “I am a little disappointed with the A in history, but on the whole, I am delighted.
“I expected these results to be honest, I think my parents did too, but they have said well done to me.
“I studied hard and had lots of early nights.
“I am looking forward to going to London and excited for what the future holds.
“I haven’t made any plans for tonight, we will just see what happens.”
It was a record breaking year at the school with 35.2 per cent of pupils gaining A* grades.
Hello,
I’m the fellow in question, and for the record, I attribute none of my success to hard work and early nights. I will be working at a think tank, rather than “the Think Tank”. I also do not have a place at Cambridge university yet, but will be applying for one.

YES ALAN, YOU GO ALAN
Hello Li,
Despite what you’ve said, I still like the article. Congratulations, well done! What do you attribute your success to, if not hard work? Which college in Cambridge are you hoping to apply to?
