This graffitti portrait of Lara Egan – the girl who dropped her father’s Oscar – is believed to be the latest work by guerrilla artist Banksy.
The stencil, discovered on the side of a garage in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, depicts a young girl pouting and clinging on to the famous golden trophy.
Shortly after the Oscar ceremony, 15-month-old Lara Egan – daughter of King’s Speech co-producer Simon Egan – dropped the gong while being filmed.
Banksy was nominated but did not win the ‘Best Documentary’ award for his film ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’.
In the days running up to the the awards ceremony his controversial artworks appeared – and were quickly removed – from billboards and buildings in LA.
As speculation mounted as to whether Banksy would attend the Oscars and reveal his identity, the artist released a statement.
It read: ”This is a big surprise. I don’t agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I’m prepared to make an exception for the ones I’m nominated for.
”The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me.”
Martin Goodland, 61, owns the garage where the artwork was discovered in Weston, which is just 20 miles from Banksy’s home city of Bristol.
He is unsure when it appeared but believes it must have been in the last few days.
”I’m very open-minded about graffitti – I think it depends on how well it’s done and this is extremely well done,” he said. ”The little girl’s face is excellent.
”I would be happy to leave it up here but if too many people in the area object then I would have to do something about it.”
Full-time landlord Martin added: ”The paint looks fresh so I’d say it’s been done in the last few days.
”I would be happy for people to come and have a look at it – although perhaps I should start charging.”
The world is a big joke but only Banksy gets the punchline
No, I get it.
Do not.
and EPELOG
There is something perversely dichotomous about human beings that is captured by a picture of an innocent toddler blindly fondling a golden-dipped trophy that symbolizes… everything a toddler isn’t.
Fake.
When did you become an expert-its wonderful and brightens you up when someone can produce a great piece of work like this
