Officials at a non-league football club were stunned when they received a letter which was sent to a club with the same name – 10,000 miles away in AUSTRALIA.
Bridgwater Town FC in Somerset got a letter addressed to ‘Bridgewater FC’, an Aussie rules squad in Bridgewater-on-Loddon, south east Australia.
It contained a successful application for a liquor licence from the Government Department of Justice in Victoria.
But instead of delivering it just a few miles within their own state, postal workers sent it across the globe to sleepy Somerset.
The front of the envelope was addressed to ”PO Box 58, Bridgewater-on-Loddon, 3516”.
Roger Palmer, Bridgwater Town club secretary, joked: ”You can’t fault the postal service – the letter was dated February 1.
”It got to us in Somerset from Australia in just a few days when it can take weeks to deliver something a few miles down the road!”
It is the second time the club, who lie fourth bottom of the Zamaretto League Division One South and West, have had to deal with mix-ups over their name.
Last month 50 specially printed club scarves had to be given away for free after being misspelt ”Bridgewater Town”.
A Royal Mail spokesman said yesterday: ”This item has clearly been sent to the UK by the Australian postal administration in error and we thank Bridgwater Football Club for returning the item to us.
”It will be returned to Australia for delivery to the correct address.”
