Liverpool have completed the £35 million signing of England striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle United on a five-and-a-half year contract.
The 21-year-old frontman, who has smashed 11 Premier League goals this season, will join Kenny Dalglish’s Anfield revolution and to partner fellow new boy Luis Suarez in an all-new strike force.
He will wear the number 9 shirt left vacant by the outgoing Fernando Torres who has signed for Chelsea for £50 million.
Carroll was earlier mobbed by fans as he arrived at Melwood to meet Kenny Dalglish, Steve Clarke and Sammy Lee.
He left shortly afterwards to complete a medical at a nearby hospital.
The 6ft 4 striker, known as a bad boy for his off-field antics, is Liverpool’s record signing – exceeding the £23.5 million paid for Luis Suarez on Friday night.
Uruguayan Suarez passed his medical earlier this evening.
