Andy Carroll: I’ll score goals for Liverpool

Britain’s most expensive footballer Andy Carroll has revealed his excitement at joining Liverpool in a record-breaking deal.

The £35 million striker signed from home town club Newcastle United last night in a shock five-and-a-half year deal following a day of stiff negotiation.

He will line up alongside fellow new boy Luis Suarez in what should be a potent new strikeforce for the Merseyside outfit.

Carroll told Liverpool’s official website: “It’s just a great feeling. Liverpool is a massive club and it’s nice to be wanted by a club like this, never mind turning up and being here with everyone around.

The 22-year-old England international is currently out with a calf injury but is expected to be fit within a fortnight as a stumbling Liverpool look to recover a disastrous season.

And Carroll, who has scored 11 league goals for this season, is eager to add to his tally – albeit in a different coloured shirt.

He added: “Goals have always been in my game so I’m very confident I can score for Liverpool.

“I’ll bring as much as I can to the team, I’ll score goals, create chances, hold up the ball and just try my best really.”

Carroll has taken the number 9 shirt left vacant by Fernando Torres who joined Chelsea in a staggering £50 million deal.
